Fishing Adventures in Northern Ontario

By: Amy Nutt

Are you the kind who likes to sit for hours on the banks of a babbling brook, in the midst of still-standing time, waiting? Waiting for that prized trout that will eventually be ensnared by your eager little fish hook. If so, we would like to welcome you to Northern Ontario where you can be sure you will get to take that prized trophy home and brag about it for the next twelve years. Due to the sheer abundance of freshwater rivers, lakes, and streams teeming with fish of every possible type, Northern Ontario is your answer to an amazing fishing adventure.

Between the three rich regions of Northwestern, Northeastern, and North Central that are absolutely teeming with fish, Northern Ontario offers extensive waterways, channels, rivers, and so on. You could take a weekend fishing adventure drive in or fly-in to the lakes and waterways of northwestern Ontario. The region specializes in trophy muske, but walleye, lake trout, northern pike, bass, steelhead, and salmon are also found in abundance. Quenteco Wilderness and the Albani river distribution within the park is a good option for fishing in a laid back style in the backwaters amidst complete wilderness. For river fishing enthusiasts, meandering rivulets between the Marathon and Thunder Bay are ideal for fishing for trout and salmon. The Wabigoon Eagle Lake and Nipgon River area is frequented by flying fishing enthusiasts and experts as the areas are rich in trophy walleys, muskes, bas, and pike. The Samuel de Champlain Park offers a wide variety of fishing activity in its Long Lake where a variety of trout, bass, pike and herring hang out.

When talking of fishing adventures in Northern Ontario, talk of the magnificent Algonquin Provincial Park can’t be far behind. This park is crisscrossed with water channels and you can enjoy fishing while taking noiseless canoe rides through them. Surrounded by wilderness, and completely isolated and cut off from the rest of the world, this is a haven for flying fishing aficionados, while angling experts can head to Killarney in Georgian Bay where they can practice their skills on pike, muskie, and bass.

Gone are those days when fishing enthusiasts would wade through swamps and undertake many a perilous journey to reach their favorite river hidden deep in the forest. Now you can still go along those fishing trails and have your little adventure, but Northern Ontario has become highly accessible through road and air and can make your fantasy fishing adventure a realized reality.

Make No Mistake - An African Lion Safari Can Be A Dangerous Experience - Even Life Threatening!

By: Dean Caporella

An African lion safari still tops the most wanted list among safari seekers who rate the king of the jungle the most sought after creature on tour. It’s amazing to think that one of the most dangerous animals on the planet is held in such high esteem by a race who seems hell bent on eliminating it from the face of the Earth. Go figure!

There is no doubt the African lion was headed towards oblivion in recent years as human intervention made steady progress encroaching on it’s once haloed grounds. Increased farming activity meant extra land needed to be cleared. The lion had to make way for farming stock. The good news is there are some excellent programs in place to make sure the lion continues to survive.

An African lion safari will leave a lasting impression and there are no shortage of excellent tours available. Safety is an aspect of a lion safari which cannot be emphasized enough. Your tour operator will make this a priority on your trip. Lions have the ability to lure their prey into a false sense of security. It’s an uncanny ability but an effective one.

Travelling on a recent safari to South Africa with a group of friends, I got my first taste of seeing the big cats up close. Travelling in a vehicle with eight other safari enthusiasts we stopped at the request of one of the passengers who wanted to snap a picture of a group of female lions. Our guide and driver was forthright about remaining seated and keeping all body parts inside the vehicle.

The driver became distracted and didn’t notice one of the passengers actually get out of the vehicle. What took place brought home to me just how effective the lion is in it’s own environment. It seemed perfectly safe to step outside for a moment as the lions seemed too far away to bother us. But reality was they had fixated their attention on us from the time we came into view. They were just waiting for an opportunity.

The passenger outside the vehicle was happily snapping photo after photo. What he and all of us hadn’t realised or noticed was the lions had already started to close in. It was done with precision and prowess. Suddenly, the driver began yelling furiously at the passenger outside to get back in the vehicle, at the same time pointing to a figure moving in like stealth from a short distance away. In one swift movement, the frightened gentleman had leapt back in the safe confines of the vehicle and was understandably shaken.

What we hadn’t realised was the fact he was being stalked by three separate lions all heading in from different directions and appearing to be working as a team. It all happened in an instant!

So can an African lion safari be dangerous. Sure, but only if one doesn’t observe safety protocol. With the lion under threat, now is a good time to book your African safari adventure!

Summer In Australia - Some Places You Might Want To Visit

By: Ivaylo

The summer on this continent can be pretty harsh, but once you come near the ocean you will surely forget the heat. So that’s what I am going to tell you about – the best beaches in Australia, where you can spend some amazing summer days.

I will begin with Palm Beach. It is located an hour away north from Sydney and visiting it is definitely worth it. The beach itself is about 3 kilometers long and has clean white sand all along. There are shops, restaurants and cafes on the southern end of the beach line. Half of the beach, where there are no parking spaces, is usually very calm and not really crowded. The waters are crystal clear and Palm Beach is one of the best places for surfing. There are also golf courses for those who don’t like lying on the sand. The active ones can take a walk to Barrenjoey Head and visit the lighthouse there with view of Broken Bay.

Hyams Beach is another recommended place, situated in Jervis Bay (New South Whales). Its waters and sands are also among the cleanest in the world. Jervis Bay has the status of a national park and it is very popular place among tourists and locals. Probably the best attraction there is whale sighting. These amazing creatures are often seen in the waters of the bay. Also available are diving, fishing and many other water sports. The explorers may want to see the Boodereee National Park and the Botanical Garden. The green bushes behind the coast line offer many hiking trails and one can visit the ruins of an old lighthouse in the southern end of Jervis Bay.

In Port Douglas, Queensland, you can find the Four Mile Beach. It is perhaps the best one in the state and offers warm and clear waters and a perfect landscape with the ocean, beach and palms. From the main district of Port Douglas you can reach the beach with a five minute walk. I should also mention the marine stingers there – swimming is safe from June to September, but during the rest of the year you should go no further than the stinger nets. And when it comes to Port Douglas I cannot help but think about the Great Barrier Reef. Around the city are located the beautiful Ribbon Reefs – the best place for diving along the reef. With a live-boat you can reach it and admire the colorful coral wall and the diversity of marine life in the area. Other beautiful places in Queensland are Mission Beach, Whitehaven Beach and Surfers Paradise Beach. The first two are really calm places with perfect waters and rainforests.

In Western Australia, near the city of Broome, you can go to Cable Beach. It is very beautiful, with great ocean waters and a 26 kilometers long sand line. A superb attraction there is the sunset camel rides, organized every day along the beach. At the end of the beach there is the Gantheaume Point, where you can see some beautiful cliffs, plus dinosaur footprints on them.

Cottesloe Beach is the most beautiful one around Perth, also in Western Australia. It is perfect for swimming, sun-bathing and even picnicking. There are some nice places along the coast from where you can watch the splendid sunset and the Indian Ocean. At the most southern end of the beach there is a reef where superb snorkeling is available.

Last, but not least, in Victoria you can visit the Ninety Mile Beach. It is a long strip of land with perfect sand and it is among the most natural beaches, unspoiled by human hand. In the waters in the area there are numerous marine species and you can go whale and dolphin sighting. You can also swim, fish, walk or just lie in the sun. And when mentioning Victoria, I will remind you of the Great Ocean Road, which is a must-see if you go to Australia. It is 106 kilometers long and offers the best views around the continent.

Well… this is how my virtual tour around Australia ends. There are many places I didn’t mention. After all, there are innumerable gorgeous beaches around the continent. Wherever you decide on going, I am sure you will have a great time on a perfect beach with clear waters and golden sands.

Do you enjoy cycling vacations?  Is cycling one of your favorite hobbies during your time off, when you’re not working, or when you’re on your vacation?  Where do you enjoy cycling to?  Read the following article and leave a comment about your cycling experience.  What are your favorite cycling destinations?

Cycling Your Way To Happiness – Take A Cycling Vacation This Year

By: Harwood E

For many of a vacation is a must each year, it is the one thing that keeps us sane in the middle of the cold dark drive to and from work in the middle of winter. The damp and the cold do not feel quite so bad at 7am in the morning when you have got the thought of a long summer vacation in just a few months time.

But then comes the dreaded reality that you have not made enough money this year to be able to afford to take the family on the holiday that they have all been craving since the nights closed in and the sun last went away. The horror of that realization is a real one that many of us have experienced over the years and with the way the credit crunch is hitting home this year it will be a sad reality for many of us again. But maybe all is not lost; maybe you can have that holiday, albeit on a shoestring but a holiday it will be none the less.

For many of us the idea of a holiday is getting away from the reality of work for a couple of weeks as well as having a break from the same old same old of the four walls that are your home. If taking a beach vacation is not an option this year for you and your family what can you do that will still get you away but not break the bank.

A lot of what I am going to suggest needs you the reader to have an open mind and be willing to try something that for many people has never been an option before. Why not explore a region of your own country or a country very close to you that you can drive to on a bicycle? Other than the cost of the fuel to get to your destination you will have no other traveling costs and if you find a pleasant spot you can get the tent out and set up camp for a couple of weeks solely using your bicycles to explore the local area. It might sound a little daunting at first but with this plan you at least get away from home and work as well as getting to see and experience new locations that you may have never been to before.

Depending on what it is that your family enjoy doing you can tailor your camp to suit everyone’s needs. If you so wished you could camp within distance of a beach, on the outskirts of a town, in a forest or even in or near a large campsite with facilities, whatever suits you needs. You really can be quite specific on where you go to ensure getting the best holiday possible for ever member of the family. And for those members of the family that perhaps a cycling tour would not suit then they have the option of enjoying some of the other activities that your chosen area has to offer.

So now when that dreaded moment comes along and you realize that your boss and the taxman have not been quite so generous this year you do not have to worry about getting away for your vacation. Have two wheels, will travel.
